I first saw Candlebox at the Orpheum Theater in Boston back in 93′ and was blown away by their performance. I consider myself an avid concert goer and in the late eighties, early nineties witnessed hundreds of shows in and around the greater Boston area, yet Candlebox stuck out because of their ferocity on stage. Oh and did I mention the two lesbians making out in the first row? Yeah, that happened too and it was, ahem, pretty good I guess.

I picked up the latest Candlebox album ‘Into the Sun’ with little expectation and fairly certain it didn’t include lesbians. Even though I was right about the lesbians, my expectations were shattered by this album. This is my pick for ALBUM OF THE YEAR and I don’t give a shit what else comes out between now and the end of the year, it’s that good.

I am not going to give a long winded review because you probably have one finger on the mouse ready to click to some porn site (perv!), or you’ve fallen asleep mid-sentence, but I can’t emphasize enough how incredible this album is. The band sounds fantastic with three out of four original members in place and lead singer Kevin Martin’s vocals are top notch. The only problem for Candlebox is not as many people are going to give it a listen as would have had it been earlier on in their career and this is evidenced by comments over at MetalSucks.

Give a listen below, my favorites tracks (i personally like them all) are Bitches Brewin, Surrendering, Miss you and Breathe Me In. Take a peak at this photo (like you didn’t notice it), put your headphones on and lets go back to the Orpheum circa 1993.
